What is a Ransomware Attack
Ransomware is malware that encrypts your files or locks you out of your website, demanding payment for access. While ransomware often targets computers and servers, poorly protected websites can also be affected.
Why It’s Dangerous:
- Loss of website data
- Potential permanent damage if no backup exists
- Financial loss if ransom is paid (not recommended)
How to Protect Yourself:
- Make regular off-site backups (Akeeba Backup recommended)
- Keep server software patched and updated
- Avoid installing questionable extensions
- Use strong admin passwords and 2FA
