How to Clone Your HDD to an SSD

Upgrading to an SSD can significantly improve your computer's boot speed, program launch times, and overall performance. Here’s how to clone your hard drive safely.

What You’ll Need

  • A new SSD (make sure it’s large enough for your data)
  • A USB-to-SATA cable or external enclosure
  • Cloning software such as Macrium Reflect, EaseUS Todo Backup or AOMEI Partition Assistant

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Connect the SSD to your computer using the USB adapter.
  2. Install and open the cloning software.
  3. Select your source disk (the old HDD) and destination disk (the SSD).
  4. Start the cloning process — it can take 30–60 minutes depending on data size.
  5. Once complete, shut down your computer and replace the HDD with the SSD.

After Installation

Boot into Windows — you should notice an immediate speed increase. If Windows doesn’t start, check your BIOS to ensure the SSD is set as the primary boot device.
