What is a Brute Force Attack

A brute force attack is one of the simplest yet most common cyber threats websites face. It occurs when a hacker uses automated software to repeatedly try different combinations of usernames and passwords until they succeed. These attacks often target the Joomla administrator login page, especially if weak or common passwords are used.

Why It’s Dangerous:

  • Can give attackers full control of your website
  • May lead to defacement, data theft, or malware installation

How to Protect Yourself:

  • Use strong, unique passwords
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Joomla
  • Limit login attempts using a security extension
  • Change or protect the default /administrator URL
